GRAMBLING, La. | Grambling State University head softball coach Nakeya Hall announced on Monday the 2023 schedule for the upcoming season.
The Lady Tigers, who went 24-24 overall and 11-13 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) last season will play in three classics/invitationals and face off against Louisiana Christian, UMass-Lowell, Tarleton State, Northwestern State and Louisiana Tech in non-conference games.
“I am extremely excited about the 2023 season,” Hall said. “We will be playing a competitive schedule and I’m looking forward to building off of the historical 24-win season from last year. We have a pretty good balance of home and away contests, which will allow our fans to come out and support the program. We look forward to a great season and hope to make a run in the SWAC Championships in May.”
Grambling State opens the season in Vicksburg, Miss. at the River City Classic against Southeastern Baptist, Alabama A&M, Xavier, La. And Jackson State (February 10-13) and will have its home opener at the GSU Softball Complex against Texas College (February 15).
The Lady Tigers will compete in the Mardi Gras Classic in Baton Rouge, La. against Jackson State, Eastern Illinois and Alabama State (February 18-19), followed by a trip to Northwestern State (February 22).
GSU wraps up the opening month at the JSU HBCU Invitational in Jackson, Miss. against Kentucky State and Tuskegee (February 25-26).
Grambling State begins its second month of the season at McNeese State (March 1), followed by back-to-back doubleheaders at the GSU Softball Complex against Louisiana Christian (March 5) and UMass-Lowell (March 7).
The Lady Tigers open SWAC play at home as Texas Southern visits the GSU Softball Complex (March 10-11) and will meet Jackson State in a non-conference game (March 14).
GSU takes to the road for its first SWAC series with a trip to Pine Bluff, Ark. to take on Arkansas-Pine Bluff (March 17-18), followed by a non-conference doubleheader at Mississippi Valley State (March 22).
Prairie View A&M visits the GSU Softball Complex (March 24-25), before a trip to Stephensville, Texas to take on Tarleton State (March 28).
Grambling State welcomes rival Southern to the GSU Softball Complex (March 31-April 1), before visiting Alcorn State (April 7-8).
The Lady Tigers play host to Northwestern State (April 11), followed by a trip to Prairie View A&M (April 14-15).
Mississippi Valley State visits the GSU Softball Complex (April 19) and Arkansas-Pine Bluff comes to town (April 21-22), before the short trip to Ruston, La., as GSU visits Louisiana Tech (April 25).
Grambling State wraps up regular season play in Houston at Texas Southern (April 28-29).
The 2023 SWAC Softball Tournament begins May 9 and concludes May 12 in Gulfport, Miss.
